The Best 360 Cameras of 2025 Compared: Insta360 X5 vs GoPro Max 2 vs DJI Osmo 360

There has probably never been a better time to buy a 360-degree camera, with three frontrunners dominating the market. But which should you choose? The Insta360 X5, the GoPro Max 2, or the DJI Osmo 360? Here's our guide to their pros and cons.

In the past few months, the three leading 360-degree camera manufacturers have all released new flagship products on the market. This is like one of those grand conjunctions that astronomers tend to get excited about, as getting these all to line up in a similar release window has meant a few unlikely things had to swing into place.

GoPro had to release the Max 2 six years after the original Max, and DJI had to enter the 360-camera market in the first place. Yes, "the three leading 360-camera manufacturers" is perhaps a bit of a stretch as a result, but such is DJI's reputation for disruption that it can pretty much launch into an adjacent market and immediately be considered one of the top dogs.

More to the point, all of them releasing within a six-month window gives us a wonderful opportunity to compare them together. We've reviewed all three, so have pulled together the headline information from those reviews to give you snapshot of which one best suits your needs with Black Friday and the annual holiday shopping bonanza rapidly approaching.

To delve into more detail, head to our individual reviews:

Insta360 X5 — “Important upgrades open up new possibilities”

GoPro Max 2 — “An 8K 360 Camera Greater Than the Sum of Its Parts”

DJI Osmo 360 — “Low-Light Excellence and Stellar Audio”

In Summary: It All Depends on Your Priorities

It all depends very much on what you want from a 360-camera. None of the three is perfect, but they do align well with certain priorities

If low-light performance and image quality are the main draw for you , the DJI Osmo 360 has the best spec sheet for that. Meanwhile, if you prioritise lens flexibility and rugged action mounting plus balanced performance, the Insta360 X5 is a strong all-rounder.

Finally, if you are already deep in the GoPro ecosystem, want rugged mount options, reliability and simpler workflow, the GoPro MAX 2 is a good choice, though it comes with trade-offs in low light and runtime.

You pays your money and you takes your choice. Perhaps with a few tweaks here and there, by the time we come to the next generation 360-cameras — which should all release about the same time — there will be a clear winner.
