Shure Updates MV88 Microphone with USB-C Support for iOS and Android

Shure's new MV88 USB-C Stereo Microphone for iOS and Android, adds USB-C connectivity alongside  auto-level control, noise reduction, and four pickup modes.

The latest iteration of the Shure MV88 adds the now-standard USB-C connector, is compatible with both Android and iOS devices, and retains the stereo condenser that made the original such a success in a pocket-sized form factor.

Pro Audio Direct to Mobile

The whole raison d'être of the MV88 USB-C is that it elevates audio capture during mobile filmmaking or streaming to pro levels by simply plugging directly into a smartphone's USB-C port. To help with that task, it ships with a couple of features including Auto Level Mode, which automatically adjusts audio gain in real time to prevent peaks or quiet recordings, as well as Real-time Denoiser processing to reduce background noise. Experienced users who prefer manual control can override these settings.

Recording Options and Control

The mic supports four pickup configurations: adjustable stereo, mono cardioid, mono bi-directional, and raw mid-side. Additional sound-shaping controls — including five-band EQ, compression, limiter, gain, and a high-pass filter — are available through the Shure MOTIV Video and MOTIV Audio mobile apps and MOTIV Mix on desktop. The apps also include several recording presets and tools to further automate audio capture and flatten learning curves, such as stereo width control and noise reduction.

It offers an alternative to wireless lavalier systems and can be simpler when capturing multiple voices or real-world ambient sound without individually micing each subject.

Pricing and Availability

Shure is exhibiting the MV88 USB-C at CES Unveiled in Las Vegas. The mic is available now for $159 / £145 / €169 and ships with a foam windscreen and carry case.
