The new Insta360 Mic sits between the Mic Pro and Mic Air. Expandable storage allows optional 32-bit float internal recording, it features the Mic Pro's customizable E-Ink display, and prices start at $79.99.

Insta360 has launched Insta360 Mic, a wireless microphone aimed at content creators. It sits neatly between the flagship Mic Pro and the entry-level Mic Air in the company’s lineup, and is Insta360’s first customizable E-Ink wireless mic with expandable storage. As with the Mic Pro, the transmitter’s E-Ink display shows images users upload, but this time around a microSD slot allows users access to more than the Mac Pro’s included 32 GB. Without a card, Mic records over Bluetooth or through the receiver.

With a microSD card inserted, the transmitter records 32-bit float audio internally, acting as a reliable backup to whatever is recorded on the accompanying camera or phone. AI noise canceling runs on a dedicated AI audio processing chip using an NPU-based noise reduction model. Two automatic gain modes are available to handle audio processing on the fly: Auto, which helps prevent clipping, and Dynamic, which balances volume changes. Three voice tone presets, Regular, Rich, and Bright, are also included.

One receiver connects up to four transmitters, and Mic and Mic Pro transmitters can be mixed on the same receiver. For multicamera work, two transmitters can send synchronized audio to up to four receivers. Each transmitter runs for up to 13 hours, extending to 34 hours with the charging case.

Connectivity and size

insta360 mic einkInsta360 Direct Connect pairs the transmitter over Bluetooth with the company’s own cameras, namely the X6, X5, Luna Ultra, Luna Pro, GO Ultra, and Ace Pro 2, recording 48 kHz audio without a receiver. The X6 and Luna can connect two transmitters at once. The receiver connects to smartphones, DSLRs, and mirrorless cameras through the included USB-C smartphone adapter or 3.5 mm cable. Clipped to a shirt or jacket, the transmitter works as a wireless lavalier microphone, with no cable running between the speaker and the camera.

Transmitter dimensions are 38×12.2mm (1.5×0.5in) and it weighs 19.4 g (0.7 oz). It uses the same receiver and charging case as the Mic Pro. These are 55.8×27.7×21mm (2.2×1.1×0.8in) and 29.8g (1.1oz), and 122×61.9×42.2mm (4.8×2.4×1.7in) and 174 g (6.1 oz) respectively.
