This week's news roundup includes a new CrumplePop filter, Canon R5 firmware updates, and updates to Luna Display.

CrumplePop Introduces AudioDenoise AI

AudioDenoise AI is the newest plugin from CrumplePop, and it cleans up challenging audio using their new AI. The example they give is sound with an air conditioning unit running in the background with a 60-cycle hum. For a production I worked on, we ended up re-looping the dialogue, but CrumplePop promises AudioDenoise AI will clean it up.

The new plugin will intelligently remove hum, hiss, and background noise from your footage, while ensuring the subjects' voices remain clear and unaltered. AudioDenoise AI is available for Final Cut Pro, Logic, Premiere, Audition, DaVinci Resolve, and Garageband.

I'm a huge fan of CrumplePop's plugins, whether they're for audio or video. They're powerful-but-affordable plugins that can help quickly fix or enhance my work in post.

AudioDenoise AI costs only $129 USD, but is on sale for $99 USD. You can learn more and purchase on CrumplePop's site. It also offers some great tutorials to help you get started in your preferred editing platform. The company also offers a suite of their audio apps at a good price, which you can learn about here.

Luna Display adds PC-to-Mac mode, 5K support, and teleprompter

There's a new software update for Luna Display, ver. 5.1, that adds 5K support and a PC-to-Mac mode, which allows you to use another Mac as a secondary display. Back in October 2021, Luna Display added a PC-to-iPad mode, turning Apple's tablet into a secondary monitor.

This is particularly useful if you have an older Mac or iPad laying around and need that secondary monitor to enhance your editing. You can put the device to work instead of letting them collect dust.

Along with the PC-to-Mac mode is support for 4K and 5K, which is very useful for ensuring your getting a proper image while color grading your footage. The caveat is the Mac or iPad's display needs to be in native 4K or 5K resolution to work properly.

Another cool feature in the Luna Display update is the Teleprompter Mode, which is perfect for when you're filming a cooking show, news piece, etc.

The cost of the Luna Display USB-C dongle is $129.99 USD, although they do offer discounts from time-to-time. Learn more at Astropad's site.

Canon R5 firmware ver. 1.5.0 released

Canon has officially released the R5 firmware version 1.5.0, which was originally announced back in November. It's recommended all users of Canon's excellent camera download and install on their R5.

The update adds support for vehicles to detect in the AF tab, support of helmets and googles (very useful for filming motor cross, triathlon, or winter sports events), eye detection even if there's shadows or hair covering the eyes, torso detection, and much more.

A couple of other noteworthy fixes and enhancements include taking care of an issue where noise appears on the edges when filming bright subjects in Canon Log; IBIS (In-Body Image Stabilization) controls have been further optimized when using a particular EF lens without that image stabilization feature; support for the RF 5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye lens; etc.

You can learn more and download the Canon R5 firmware ver. 1.5.0 here (USA) or here for the UK and Europe.
