amaran Mic: $99 wireless desktop microphone with AI noise reduction

Lighting specialist amaran is widening its remit with the introduction of the amaran Mic, a $99 wireless desktop mic aimed at the creator market.

Designed for livestreaming, podcasting, and everyday video creation from a desk, the amaran Mic features built-in AI noise reduction and marks a major expansion of the amaran ecosystem beyond its core competency in lighting.

The mic is built around a 30 mm dynamic capsule with a supercardioid pickup pattern that captures sound from directly in front of the mic while reducing pickup from the sides. It has an 86 dB signal-to-noise ratio, handles sound pressure levels up to 130 dB, and includes a built-in automatic limiter to prevent clipping on volume spikes.

The AI noise reduction runs directly inside the mic without being offloaded onto a computer or into the cloud for processing. Three modes are available: Original Sound for unprocessed capture, Standard Noise Reduction for steady background sounds such as fan noise or AC hum, and AI Noise Reduction for less predictable sounds such as keyboard clicks or traffic noise.

The mic can be used wired or wireless, either connecting directly to a compatible device with a USB-C cable, or plugging in the pre-paired USB-C receiver. 2.4 GHz wireless transmission reaches up to 50 m (164 ft) in unobstructed environments, while battery life is rated up to 60 hours.

On-mic controls

Most key adjustments can be made directly on the microphone instead of via software. This includes the ability to switch between Noise Reduction modes from the mic itself, making it easy to respond to unexpected distractions without interrupting the session. Users can also adjust mic and monitor volume, mute the microphone, check battery status, and monitor audio in real time.

For deeper customization beyond the on-mic essentials, the amaran Desktop App allows creators to tailor their tone with EQ presets and custom curves, and further refine their sound with Vocal Enhancement, Noise Gate, Limiter, and more.

Finally, for those who want more flexible positioning and less equipment visible on the desk or in frame, a Low-Profile Boom Arm provides an additional mounting option and will begin shipping in Q4 2026. Both mounting configurations will be available in Charcoal and White.
