Viltrox has upgraded its retro Vintage Z1 flash with TTL metering and 1/8000 s high-speed sync, as well as a circular color touchscreen.
Viltrox's Vintage Z1 Pro is a retro-inspired compact on-camera flash that adds TTL metering and High-Speed Sync (HSS) to the manual-only Z1 that was released last year, while keeping the same pocket-friendly dimensions and vintage aesthetic that made the original a success.
HSS and TTL additions
The Z1 Pro is the first in Viltrox's Vintage series to include HSS, syncing up to 1/8000 s to allow wider aperture shooting in bright daylight. TTL metering handles automatic exposure adjustment based on ambient conditions. Two optical trigger modes are supported: S1, which fires in sync with any detected flash burst, and S2, which ignores TTL pre-flashes and triggers on the primary burst, enabling multi-light and off-camera setups.
The circular color touchscreen on the Vintage Z1 Pro replaces the on/off switch of the original Z1
A new circular color touchscreen on the rear replaces the on/off switch of the original Z1, providing access to flash output levels, shooting modes, battery status, and sync settings via touch controls.
The flash delivers 24 Ws output with a 1-second recycle time. Battery life is rated at up to 350 full-power flashes per charge, with USB-C charging bringing it back to full in approximately 70 minutes. The unit weighs 136 g (4.8 oz) and is available in dedicated hot shoe versions for Sony, Nikon, Canon, and Fujifilm cameras.
