Strada on the IBC2026 show floor: RAW comments, autmoated transcoding, and iOS parity

Strada 2.0 now lets editors comment directly on RAW camera files, one-click transcode large codecs, and edit remotely from a feature-complete iOS app.

Strada co-founder Peter Chion outlined three new developments in the company's remote collaboration platform. Strada runs on local computers and a peer-to-peer network, letting media stay in place on a client's own storage, whether an internal drive, NAS, RAID, SAN or OWC Jellyfish, while granting remote editors access without moving the files themselves.

The first development is commenting directly on RAW camera files. Previously, reviewers had to comment on a proxy or an H.264/HEVC export; Strada now supports comments on the original source. The second is automated transcoding, branded "optimized media": a one-click workflow that converts large raw files (in Chion's demonstration a 350 GB source, down to around 3 GB), making them practical to edit remotely over ordinary internet connections. 

Chion actually demonstrated this live, playing back RED R3D footage stored roughly 7000 miles away at the company's office in Colorado, with playback beginning around 300 milliseconds after selection. He then switched to the original camera file and applied a colour grade inside DaVinci Resolve, working on footage that remained physically located in Los Angeles throughout. Impressive.

The third development is a new iOS release that brings the mobile app to feature parity with Strada's native application, launched the week of the demo. From a phone, users can initiate file transfers, play back large raw files, including a 10 Gbit/s clip, over a venue WiFi hotspot, add comments, and share files to on-premises storage. Access to shared media is managed through an invitation system, with viewer, downloader, editor and admin roles that can be granted or revoked instantly.
