SmallRig debuts modular MagicFIZ Wireless Follow Focus System

1 minute read

Building on the success of its Mini Follow Focus System, SmallRig has just released the new MagicFIZ Wireless Follow Focus System.

SmallRig reckons that the MagicFIZ Wireless Follow Focus System offers a fast, flexible solution for any shooting situation. In addition to wireless focusing, the MagicFIZ also offers wireless control of iris and zooming and the ability to start and stop camera recording.

The 2.4G system has an operational distance up to 100m/328fft and users can ensure interference-free performance, or control multiple systems, by quickly switching channels. Indeed, by adjusting the channels and motor numbers, SmallRig says that a single Wireless Handwheel Controller/Wireless Handgrip can control up to 48 motors. And with latency of less than 50ms, real-time adjustments can be made without any lag or delays. Secure data transmission is ensured by specialized encryption algorithms.

High torque gives the motors power to drive cine lenses

The Wireless Handwheel Controller has a large, precision focusing wheel that works independently or can be attached onto the Wireless Handgrip, enabling one person to control two motors simultaneously. It has a built-in 1400mAh battery that can last up to 20 hours, a simple interface for easy operation, a full featured 0.96in OLED display, and a power-off memory system that stores lens travel and A/B Marker positions so there’s no need to re-calibrate when you power up the unit.

The Wireless Handgrip with Electronic Controller Module can either remotely control Wireless Receiver Motors with its finger control focusing wheel or it can be connected to the  Wireless Handwheel Controller for maximum flexibility. The Wireless Handgrip is powered by a replaceable LP-E6 battery for up to 40 hours operating time, has a 0.96in OLED display and can power the Wireless Handwheel Controller or Wireless Receiver Motor.

The Wireless Receiver Motor accepts external power from V-Mount batteries through its USB-C interface or can use NP-F series batteries via a quick-release battery plate (up to 3.5 hours operation with an NP-F550 battery). It can also be powered by the SmallRig Follow Focus Wireless Handwheel Controller or Wireless Handgrip. With a high torque output of 0.5Nm it can easily drive cine lenses.

All in all it’s a complete ecosystem of accessories that are fully compatible with cages, monitors, 15mm rod clamp systems, etc., to meet the needs of follow focus users in all scenarios. Available to preorder now, example prices include a basic kit for £288, the MagicFIZ Follow Focus Handgrip Kit for £673, and a Two Motor Kit for £384. All prices ex VAT.
