Miller Camera Support Equipment is shutting down at the end of September. Owners Mark and Diane Clementson are retiring, and a warehouse clearance sale starts September 1.
Miller Camera Support Equipment, the storied Australian company behind one of the industry's most widely used tripod head designs, is closing down. The company's final day of trading is September 30, 2026.
Owners Mark and Diane Clementson are retiring and winding the company down. They announced the decision in an open letter to distributors on August 25, titled Celebrating 72 Years of Innovation and Service.
"This decision marks the conclusion of an extraordinary journey that began in Sydney in the mid-1940s and grew into a globally recognized Australian success story," the Clementsons wrote. "While we look forward to retirement, we do so with immense pride in what Miller has contributed to the film and television industry worldwide."
Miller's roots go back a long way. The eponymous engineer Bob Miller developed the world's first fluid tripod head in Sydney in the mid-1940s, and it was a genuine turning point.Miller's fluid design made clean pans, tilts, and diagonal moves possible in ways gear heads simply could not manage, and the underlying principle has since become the standard approach across the industry.
More than 200,000 Miller systems are believed to still be in active use worldwide, across electronic news gathering, field production, cinema, and broadcast television.
"As we bring this chapter to a close, we are incredibly grateful for the support, loyalty, and friendships we have built over the past seven decades," the Clementsons concluded.
September sale
The company has not detailed what happens to warranty support, spare parts availability, or existing distributor stock once trading ends. The scale of the sale is obvious from the pop-up warehouse clearance sale currently underway on its US site at https://millertripods.store.
