Schoeps Desert Island Boom Set: one amp, two capsules, every scenario covered

Schoeps' Desert Island Boom Set pairs the CMC 1 U amplifier with MK 41 and KMIT capsules in one Pelican Case, built for boom operators who carry two mics.

Schoeps is bringing a new member of its Desert Island Set family to NAB 2026. The new Desert Island Boom Set is a modular kit built around the CMC 1 U microphone amplifier and two capsule options — the MK 41 supercardioid and the KMIT shotgun — all housed in a Pelican Case.

The KMIT ships in its signature blue finish. The well-regarded mic launched at IBC2024 and was Schoeps' first Colette capsule with an interference tube.

The logic behind the new set is solid. Boom operators typically carry two microphones for two scenarios: a supercardioid for interiors, where controlled pickup and natural dialogue character are critical, and a shotgun for exteriors, where additional directivity is needed to cut through ambient noise. The Desert Island Boom Set consolidates that into one CMC 1 U amplifier body with two swappable capsules.

The CMC 1 U is Schoeps' compact alternative to the CMC 6, around 60% smaller and 40% lighter while retaining the same electrical and sonic characteristics. It accepts all MK capsules and is compatible with 12 V or 48 V phantom power.
