The new ROG Strix XG27JCG monitor offers dual mode switching, combining 5K at 180 Hz and QHD at 330 Hz for both high-end gaming and entertainment experiences.

Despite the small matter of Christmas in the way, CES is already starting to loom rather large. With monitor developments expected to be a key part of the show, ASUS' gaming-focused subsidiary ROG has got ahead of the competition with the announcement of the ROG Strix XG27JCG.

Dual Mode Switching

Based on a 5K (5120 x 2880) Fast IPS display, the 27-inch ROG Strix 5K XG27JCG allows you to easily switch between 5K at 180 Hz for immersive gaming and cinema-like entertainment, and QHD at 330 Hz for responsive and what is by any stretch of the imagination blazingly-fast gameplay.

Both modes deliver swift 0.3 ms gray-to-gray response time for flawless, smooth visuals, while a pixel pitch of 218 ppi adds to the experience. The monitor supports 97% of DCI-P3, and is DisplayHDR 600 certified. Gaming-specific AI tech includes features like Dynamic Shadow Boost, Dynamic Crosshair, and AI Visual.

An ergonomic stand offers tilt, swivel, pivot, and height adjustment, while VESA compatibility enables the monitor to be mounted on the wall for even greater flexibility.

High-End GPU Required

ROG Strix XG27JCG red visualThe potential wrinkle is that support for 5K resolution at up to 180 Hz requires a compatible graphics card. Currently, only the NVIDIA GeForce 50-series GPUs and AMD Radeon RX 7600 or newer meet the required spec, though we'd expect that list to expand at CES too.

AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia G-SYNC compatibility ensure tear-free visuals, enabling variable refresh rate by default. In addition, Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync (ELMB Sync) technology prevents ghosting and further protects against tearing, while ASUS Variable Overdrive automatically adjusts settings for optimal performance at any frame rate.

An array of connectivity options includes USB-C with DP Alt mode for video output and power delivery, DisplayPort 1.4 DSC for high-res and high-refresh-rate connections, and HDMI 2.1 to support consoles and other multimedia devices.

Pricing and Availability

We're already heading firmly into the CES zone where such things as cost and when you can buy things become firmly TBA. No details yet.
