Avid's latest Pro Tools update ships features previewed at NAMM, bringing session navigation tools, immersive audio format support, and new NI instruments to Studio and Ultimate users.

Avid has released Pro Tools 2026.4, adding Track Pin for session navigation, MPEG-H immersive audio support, Dolby Headphone Personalization, Speech-to-Text enhancements, and NI Massive X Player.

Some of these features were previewed at NAMM 2026 in January, so it is good to see them ship. Track Pin is one of them, and locks one or more tracks to the top of the Edit window, keeping them visible while scrolling through the rest of the session. An alias of each pinned track appears in a dedicated Pinned Tracks pane; changes made to either the alias or the source track are mirrored in real time.

Speech-to-Text enhancements

Speech-to-Text is another, and provides several enhancements in Studio and Ultimate, namely that transcription data now carries through automatically to newly rendered files following AudioSuite, Commit, Consolidate, and Track Bounce operations. Users can also separate timeline clip selections by word, sentence, or speaker; show or hide the transcription lane on a per-track basis; and select CPU or GPU processing for transcription analysis.

Immersive tools

Avid Pro Tools 2026.4 Post SessionOn the immersive audio side, MPEG-H support enables object-based mixing with selectable immersive mixes, multiple language options, dialogue enhancement, and interactive spatial audio positioning within a single session. The Fraunhofer IIS MPEG-H Renderer plugin is included at no extra cost for Studio and Ultimate users.

A new Pro Tools Immersive Panner accompanies the update, supporting MPEG-H and Audio Vivid renderer objects including multichannel object sources up to 9.1.6. Dolby Headphone Personalization uses a custom-measured Head Related Transfer Function (HRTF) to improve spatial accuracy when mixing Dolby Atmos on headphones. Users capture their ear and head shape via smartphone camera using the free SoundID Tools mobile app from Sonarworks, then load the profile directly into Pro Tools.

For music production, the update adds Massive X Player from Native Instruments, along with an exclusive Pro Tools Massive X Essentials expansion pack for all users, and Lo-fi & Chill Plucks and Haze expansion packs for active subscribers and perpetual license holders. Inner Circle rewards for the same group include the Ampknob BDH III guitar amp plugin from Bogren Digital and Bad Math multiband distortion from Cut Classic.

Pricing and availability

Track Pin and Massive X Player are available to all Pro Tools users. MPEG-H support, Dolby Headphone Personalization, the Immersive Panner, and Speech-to-Text enhancements are limited to Studio and Ultimate editions, which start at $24.99 a month on an annual payment.
