Panasonic has introduced two major updates for professional video production: the AK-UBX100 4K multi-purpose camera, and what’s billed as the world’s first auto-focus function for 2/3-type 4K studio cameras, which debuts on the AK-UCX100.
AK-UBX100: Compact and Multi-Purpose 4K
The AK-UBX100 is a 1.9 kg (4.2 lb) box-style 4K camera that shares the 2/3-type bayonet lens mount sensor and processing platform of the UCX100. It has all the connectivity functions you would expect of a modern camera destined for video production, and supports SMPTE ST 2110, NDI High-Bandwidth, NDI HX2, and SRT, with dual 12G-SDI and SFP+/28 ports.
The UBX100 has been designed for robotic mounting and multi-camera workflows, and is part of the company’s wider production ecosystem, integrating with Panasonic’s already released UCX100 and AW-UE160 cameras for consistent operation across setups. This includes a unified menu interface and compatibility with common remote operation panels, as well as colour matching for devices such as the AW-UE160 PTZ camera.

An HD optical low-pass filter enhances suppression, delivering crisp imagery even in visually complex scenes. A firmware update in mid-2026 will add auto-focus.
Talking of which…
AK-UCX100: First 2/3-type 4K Studio Camera With Auto-Focus
The AK-UCX100 claims a world’s first in becoming the first 2/3-type 4K studio camera to gain auto-focus capabilities ahead of the release of the AK-UBX100, presumably via a forthcoming firmware update. This should particularly help productions in addressing the challenges of maintaining sharpness in environments using LED walls, projectors, or other complex lighting that can be found in studio environments.

Additional features scheduled for the camera include:
- Low Skew Mode for improved image stability in fast-motion scenes.
- Expanded Video TRUNK functionality with 12G-SDI support for high-bandwidth signal transmission.
- Automatic correction for F-drop and peripheral light falloff to maintain uniform image quality.
- Remote back focus adjustment, allowing focus to be fine-tuned from a distance.
Pricing and Availability
The AK-UBX100 will be available by the end of the year. Presumably the firmware update enabling auto-focus for the AK-UCX100 will be released before then. No word on pricing for the new camera, but by way of a guide the AK-UCX100 is currently selling for $52,600.
