As Sandmarc points out, the iPhone’s digital zoom crops in and loses quality with every pinch and tap. Which means there's a gap in the market, no matter how wild the resulting lens can look.
The Sandmarc Telephoto 240mm lens is an attachable optical zoom lens capable of capturing details with 10x zoom in hard-to-reach places. It attaches to an iPhone using the Sandmarc case or clip-on mount. Once the lens is securely fastened, the iPhone's 48mm camera will be fully utilized, performing at its maximum level and, says the company 'rivalling DSLR telephoto glass.'
It's the company's most powerful zoom yet developed. An adjustable focus wheel lets users make easy adjustments without changing their grip, Bokeh is natural, low light performance benefits hugely from the optical versus digital advantages, and the unit weighs only 310 g (10.9 oz), though that doesn't include the cage or mount. The length of the lens is definitely going to change the balance of the camera, but for the occasional shot that could be well worth it. The results are decent too.
Pricing is $299 and availability is immediate. The lens is also compatible with the company's existing line up of filters.
