Three Shooting Modes

Lomo MC-A controlsThe Lomo MC-A offers three main shooting modes.

Program Auto Exposure: one for out and out newbies. Automatically sets both shutter speed and aperture according to surroundings. A slow shutter speed indicator light will light up in orange in the viewfinder, when the shutter speed is slower than 1/30 and will warn of possible camera shake.

Aperture Priority Auto Exposure: designed for photographers who want creative depth-of-field control without losing the convenience of auto exposure. You choose the aperture (f/2.8 – f/16), while the camera calculates the shutter speed for a balanced, 'schoolbook' exposure. Perfect for portraits, street shots and any scene where selective focus matters. Features the same slow shutter speed indicator light function.

Fully Manual: take complete control of both shutter speed and aperture, with additional exposure compensation control – perfect for more experienced photographers who want to fine-tune every shot, experiment with creative effects, or push the limits of film. Use bulb mode for long exposures, light painting, or capturing trails of movement in low light.

Three Flash Modes

  • Auto Flash: the camera will automatically adjust the flash output based on your surroundings. In Program Auto- and Aperture Priority Exposure modes, the slowest shutter speed is limited to 1/30s when your flash is on, reducing any camera shake.
  • Lomo Creative Flash Mode 1: a programmatic flash with front-curtain synchronization during long exposures, and optimized exposure curve for night scenes.
  • Lomo Creative Flash Mode 2: a programmatic flash with rear-curtain synchronization during long exposures, and optimized exposure curve for night scenes.

Pricing and Availability

Lomo MC-A in useThe Lomo MC-A features enough bells and whistles to place it a bit further up the pricing scale than most Lomography cameras. It costs $549 and is available in black or silver from https://shop.lomography.com. Pre-orders are open now and it should ship in December along with camera wrap, MC UV filter, leather-covered lens cap, and leather hand strap. Optional Splitzer lens attachment and colour-gel filters extend its creative potential.
