DJI Osmo 360 II specs confirmed as Chinese orders open

DJI's Osmo 360 II is now on sale in China, confirming full specs, HDR and RAW support, and pricing that undercuts the rival Insta360 X6.

As promised, DJI’s latest 360 camera, its second-generation Osmo 360 II, has gone on sale today in China. Much of what we knew before is confirmed below and was covered in detail in our Everything we know about the DJI Osmo 360 II (so far) feature, but there are a few things worth highlighting here.

HDR and RAW photo were open questions. Both are now confirmed: RAW is a supported photo format, and panoramic photos support HDR with dynamic range up from 13.5 stops (original) to 14.5 stops. Stills resolution is unchanged at 120 MP panoramic.

And of course, the price. We only have a listing in Hong Kong dollars so far, but that seems to indicate a $499 local equivalent for the base spec camera.

Upgrades over Osmo 360

DJI has thoughtfully given a list of all the key upgrades that the Osmo 360 II features over the Osmo 360:

1. Supports native 360° video at up to 8K/60fps, delivering both high resolution and high frame rates.

2. Captures 360° video with up to 14.5 stops of dynamic range.

3. Features AI SuperNight 2.0 at up to 8K60 for vastly improved low-light performance.

4. Both lenses feature an upgraded ion sputtering coating for enhanced scratch resistance, paired with a new replaceable design.

5. New Spotlight Follow mode automatically tracks the subject for precisely framed 360° video. Easily export subject-tracked 4K flat videos via the DJI Mimo app or DJI Studio, skipping edits.

6. Supports shooting up to 8K60 360 video. With DJI Studio's AI frame interpolation, it exports smooth slow motion, equivalent to cropped 8K480. Users can also capture in 4K240 to unlock up to 64× slow motion in post.

Imaging

Each of the two CMOS sensors covers an imaging area equivalent to a 1-inch sensor at a 4:3 aspect ratio when shooting 360° content, with 2.4 μm pixels and an f/1.9 aperture. Dynamic range reaches 14.5 stops (measured in a controlled lab environment; in D-Log M, maximum dynamic range is 13.5 stops). ISO range is 100–51200. Panoramic photos reach 120 MP (15,520 × 7,760, 2:1); single-lens photos reach 30.72 MP (6,400 × 4,800, 4:3).

Video modes include 8K panoramic at up to 60 fps, 6K panoramic at up to 60 fps, 4K single-lens at up to 60 fps, and a Boost Video mode supporting up to 120 fps at 4K and 2.7K in several aspect ratios. Slow motion tops out at 4K/240fps panoramic, with DJI Studio's AI frame interpolation able to generate up to 8x slow motion from native 8K/60fps footage (equivalent to a crop from 8K/480fps).

Vortex mode, which requires the separately sold Osmo Vortex Rotating Handle, captures up to 8K/120fps. Timelapse resolution reaches 16K, though 16K timelapse files can only be exported via DJI Studio (the Mimo app supports preview only). Max video bitrate is 220 Mbps (600 Mbps for 16K timelapse). All video formats support 10-bit color; D-Log M is available but not supported in Photo, Timelapse, or Endurance mode.

Stabilization uses RockSteady 3.0 and HorizonSteady. In single-lens mode, HorizonSteady only applies to standard 16:9 flat video at up to 60 fps.

Build and controls

The camera measures 61 × 36.3 × 81 mm (2.4 × 1.4 × 3.2 in) and weighs 183 g (6.5 oz). Both lenses use a replaceable design and carry an ion-sputtered coating that DJI says withstood 2,000 rubs with steel wool in lab testing without affecting image quality.

The camera is IP68-rated and waterproof to 10 m (33 ft) without a case, or 50 m (164 ft) with the separately sold Osmo 360 Invisible Waterproof Case. DJI notes that underwater use without the case is not recommended due to image distortion from the fisheye lens design, and that the battery compartment cover and USB-C port cover must be securely closed before use. Minimum stitching distance is 75 cm (29.5 in), or 1 m (3.3 ft) when using the Waterproof Case underwater.

Other hardware: a 2.0-inch touchscreen (314 × 556, 800 nits brightness), a four-microphone array with wind noise reduction, NFC quick connect to the DJI Mimo app, and mounting via a dual-direction quick-release design with 1/4-inch thread. Audio records at 48 kHz/16-bit AAC, with support for DJI OsmoAudio microphones including DJI Mic 3 and DJI Mic Mini 2 (first-generation DJI Mic not supported).

Storage and battery

128 GB of built-in storage (105 GB available) is expandable via microSD up to 1 TB. The camera uses exFAT and supports JPEG/RAW photos and OSV/MP4 (HEVC) video.

The 2,150 mAh, 8.3 Wh battery is rated for up to 100 minutes of continuous 8K/30fps recording under lab conditions (25°C/77°F, Wi-Fi/Gesture/Voice Control/screen off), and fast-charges to 80% in 22 minutes with a 30 W+ PD 3.0 charger. DJI's separately sold Battery Extension Rod adds a further 180 minutes of runtime. Operating temperature range is -20° to 45°C (-4° to 113°F); charging range is 5° to 40°C (41° to 104°F).

Connectivity is via Wi-Fi 6 (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax) across 2.4 GHz, 5.15–5.25 GHz and 5.725–5.85 GHz bands, plus Bluetooth 5.4 (BLE and BR/EDR).

Pricing and availability

DJI lists the Osmo 360 II from HKD $3,899 in Hong Kong. An Osmo 360 II Adventure Combo is listed at HKD $4699. The outgoing Osmo 360, meanwhile, is now listed from HKD $2,809, discounted from HKD $3,299.

In US dollars those prices convert to $499 for the base-spec camera and $599 for the Adventure Combo. The original first-gen camera meanwhile drops to $359.

These prices are substantially lower than the Insta360 X6, though in the US market that is a moot point as the Osmo 360 II won’t be made available there, However, in international markets such as Europe, DJI’s ability to undercut the X6 with a broadly similar feature set is profound.

The Osmo Pocket 4P had a similar China-only launch followed by an international rollout six weeks later. Based on that the Osmo 360 II should be available outside China before the end of September.
