Those finding that the 8 TB Media Module in their URSA Cine 12K LF wasn't lasting long enough can now slot in a new 16 TB version.

Once upon a time, and it's not so long ago either, 8 TB was a ridiculously large number. However, when you're dealing with the amount of data that a camera like the URSA Cine 12K LF produces, it's not so much. And that's why, after a few months of rumour, Blackmagic has rather stealthily released the new Blackmagic Media Module 16TB. It doesn't even have its own page; you have to hit up the URSA Cine page and scroll down to locate it.

The module provides 16 TB of M.2 SSD storage and installs directly into the camera's media bay. Usefully enough, when using the optional Media Dock for transfer, the module is hot-swappable for those that don't find even 16 TB meets their needs.

Spec is the same as the 8 TB version; it supports up to 12-bit Blackmagic RAW files and H.264 proxy files at data storage rates up to 1432 MB/s at 24 fps.

Pricing and Availability

While it's double the capacity of the 8 TB module, thankfully it's not double the price. The Blackmagic Design Media Module (16 TB) comes in at $2965 as opposed to the 8 TB's $1865. Pre-orders are open now at resellers worldwide, but no confirmed release date just yet.
