Beat the January blues with some hyperlapse eye candy

1 minute read

What your New Year needs is some fast-paced travel video courtesy of Hyperlapse Wizard, Andras Ra.

Technically, it is supposed to be the third Monday of January which is meant to be the most depressing day of the year. This year, that makes it January 15. But if you need a pick me up right now, then spending a few moments with Andras Ra’s hyperlapse travel videos is a definite tonic for the New Year/No Money Blues.

Ra, who is often referred to as the Hyperlapse Wizard according to this DJI Profile interview, shot his first hyperlapse video in Greece a decade ago. By his own admission, it was really shaky with visible jumps, but Instagram Reels provided the sort of opportunity that climbing big old learning curves is made for, and he’s got a lot better at it all since.

His technique follows a simple three-step process:

  • Preparation: Careful planning and scouting locations via Google Street View.
  • Shooting: Preferably with a teammate to help usher people out of the way as well as bounce ideas off of and provide b-roll.
  • Post-Production: Providing the essential seamless transitions. All this is done in Adobe Premiere Pro and is an artform in itself. So much so, he’s even set up a dedicated course to teach it.

He uses a lot of DJI kit in the process too, with the company often employing him to showcase the tools and features of its newest products.

Find out more about him and what he does in the interview below.
