The first lens in the new 7Artisans Floral Bloom Art Cine Lens Series is the Floral Bloom 37mm T2.9, a full-frame PL-mount prime with a very distinctive effect.

A Very Different Bokeh

The Floral Bloom 37mm T2.9's distinctive look is provided by an optical construction that places six elements in five groups. As PetaPixel explains, this produces a controlled central sharpness that transitions rapidly into a vivid radial blur and gives the lens its explosive bokeh effect.

This shifts with the focus distance between the subject and the background: distinct and swirling at close focus, more intensely explosive at longer distances. The center light spots remain circular, while peripheral highlights stretch out into cone-like flares that radiate outwards.

7Artisans' words for describing the effect tend toward the likes of 'trippy', 'neural dissonance', 'hallucination', 'vortex motion', 'light trails'... you get the picture.

Other Characteristics

The PL lens weighs 344g / 12.13 oz, meaning that it can be used in most places and use cases. Minimum focus distance is a fairly tight 35 cm / 14 inches. A 300° focus throw should ensure smooth manual operation, while 72 mm filters offer compatibility with standard kit. It's also very purple.
