Wooden Camera has a new cage range for the Sony FX5, from a $99 half cage to the $799 Elite Cage System. It ships late October.
While you still might not be able to get your hands on the actual camera just yet, Wooden Camera has announced a cage and accessory collection for the Sony FX5 that ships late October. It covers the usual adaptations and use cases you would expect, from mounting through lens adaptation and power management, and onto supporting transitions for handheld, cinema, and gimbal workflows.
The low-profile cage has a modular dovetail that allows users to move between bridge plates and gimbals without tools. For gimbal use, the 13 mm (0.5 in) Bolt-On ARCA-DJI RS Quick-Release Plate bolts directly to the cage and integrates with DJI RS-series gimbal systems.
E-mount to PL and E-mount to LPL adapters allow FX5 users to use PL and LPL cinema lenses, while dedicated lens support is available for larger lens configurations on gimbal and cinema setups. Battery slides support Gold Mount and V-Mount, with adjustable mounting to position the battery around the lens, monitoring, and wireless gear.
The cage design supports configurations from a half cage to a full rig with the Wooden Camera Elite Cage System. Additional mounting options accommodate monitors, wireless systems, articulating arms, lens motors, and other accessories. The accessories are made from 6061 aluminum with Type III hard anodization.
Size and weight depend on which components of the modular system are selected, but the full lite cage system comes in at 2654 g (5.85 lb) and is 428.6 x 161.9 x 112.4 mm (16.87 x 6.37 x 4.43 in).
Pricing and availability
The Wooden Camera FX5 cage system starts at $99 for the half cage and heads up to $799 for the Elite Cage System (above) that includes the full three-piece cage along with Ultra Handle, lens support, 15mm LWS rod support, and professional mounting hardware. All will be available late October.
