Tamron's APS-C constant-aperture zoom expands to two new mounts. The 17-70mm f/2.8 VC RXD launches for Nikon Z and Canon RF on July 2 at $749.

Tamron has added Nikon Z and Canon RF mount support to its popular 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD (Model B070), an APS-C standard zoom previously available for Sony E and Fujifilm X mounts. Both versions go on sale July 2, 2026 at $749.

The lens covers a 17-70mm focal length, equivalent to 25.5-105mm on Nikon Z or 27.2-112mm on Canon RF, with a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 and a 4.1x zoom ratio that Tamron says is the widest among f/2.8 standard zooms for APS-C mirrorless cameras. Built-in Vibration Compensation (VC) handles camera shake for both stills and video, while the RXD autofocus motor is designed to be fast and quiet with focus breathing suppressed.

Working up close

Close-focus performance is worth talking about: minimum object distance is 0.19 m (7.5 in) at the wide end and 0.39 m (15.4 in) at tele, giving maximum magnification of 1:4.8 and 1:5.2 respectively. Optical construction is 16 elements in 12 groups, with a 9-blade circular diaphragm.

The Canon RF version adds physical AF/MF and VC ON/OFF switches that the Z version lacks. Both Nikon Z and Canon RF variants support firmware updates via Tamron Lens Utility. The lens has moisture-resistant construction and fluorine coating on the front element. Filter diameter is 67mm across all versions.

Dimensions and weight differ slightly by mount: the Nikon Z version measures 121.3 mm (4.8 in) long and weighs 540 g (19 oz); the Canon RF version is 117.3 mm (4.6 in) and 530 g (18.7 oz). Both ship with a flower-shaped hood, front cap, and rear cap.
