SIRUI’s new ASTRA Series brings full-frame autofocus anamorphic lenses with a fast T1.8 aperture to a lightweight design for cost-conscious cinematic widescreen.

SIRUI's new ASTRA Series, a new lineup of 1.33x full-frame anamorphic lenses that brings autofocus and a constant T1.8 aperture to a relatively compact design, have just gone live on Kickstarter. The company says this is the first time these features have appeared together in a full-frame anamorphic system aimed at independent filmmakers and small crews.

The launch includes three focal lengths — 50mm, 75mm, and 100mm — each weighing between 600–700 g (1.32–1.54 lb). Despite the fast aperture, the lenses are designed to remain lightweight enough for handheld and gimbal-based work.

Full-Frame 1.33x Anamorphic Widescreen

SIRUI says that the ASTRA Series offers full-frame coverage paired with a constant 1.33x anamorphic squeeze. When used on a full-frame sensor, this works to create an immersive widescreen aspect ratio, delivering the coveted horizontal lens flares and characteristic oval bokeh that define premium cinematic production.

The lenses are characterised by a constant T1.8 aperture across the range. SIRUI says it has prioritized low-light performance and shallow depth of field but maintained a small footprint to keep the lenses practical for fast-moving productions. T1.8 lenses are traditionally thought of as heavy and bulky, the ASTRA seems to be anything but.

Improved AF

SIRUI has refined the autofocus system first introduced in its Super 35 anamorphic line. The AF performance is intended to be smooth and consistent, particularly for run-and-gun work. Users can switch between AF and manual focus, with a manual focus ring that includes a marked distance scale compatible with follow-focus units and LiDAR-based systems.

Consistent Design

The lenses share a unified 67mm front filter thread and similar dimensions. That consistency is especially useful for gimbal operators, as it allows quick lens changes without needing full rebalancing.

Mount options include E-mount, Z-mount, and L-mount, while two distinct flare style options will also be available: the classic blue streak flare or a more neutral light streak.

Pricing and Availability

The lenses are currently on Kickstarter. Super early-bird Kickstarter pricing is listed at $799 per lens or $2399 for the 3-lens kit. Normal pricing will be $999 / $2999.
