There's no official statement as yet, but we know more about the Samsung Portable SSD P9 as it's been listed as an honoree in the CES 2026 Innovation Awards.
Samsung has released a lot of news at this year's CES so far, much related to the phrase Your Companion to AI Living. Amongst the AI fridges, washing machines, and vacuums, there's an interesting looking 130-inch Micro RGB TV which lives inside what the company describes as a 'monumental frame'. It looks less like a TV and more like a piece of art or a window, but still manages to cram a load of advanced TV tech into its slimline body.

Here's a whistle stop tour through the company's ridiculously large First Look exhibition that its installed in a dedicated space at Wynn Las Vegas.

Some of it, such as the new Galaxy Book6 laptops, we'll circle back to as the week goes on, but what really interests us at the moment is the new Samsung Portable SSD P9.
This is currently billed as the world’s first and only 8TB solid-state drive supporting the USB4 interface, offering speeds up to 4000MB/s. We currently know very little about it beyond that as Samsung hasn't made an official announcement just yet, so we have no price and no availability. However, it has been nominated as a 2026 Honoree in the Computer Peripherals & Accessories of the CES Innovation Awards 2026, so some additional details have emerged.
According to the awards entry, industry-first thermal controls enable the P9 to deliver a staggering 333% improvement in read power efficiency and a 405% boost in write efficiency versus previous Samsung models. In the blurb it then goes on to specifically reference editing workflows up to 12K and production cameras, saying that it enables you to "take up to 3720 HD videos or over 2 million photos anywhere."
We'll have more when Samsung releases more.
