Blackmagic Design has posted Fusion 8.2 to the web for download, the latest update to its VFX and motion graphics application which introduces full Linux support to the platform for the first time.

While the release notes speak of such general issues as program stability and UI improvements, the major feature of Fusion version 8.2 is full Linux support. This represents a significant enhancement of Fusion, now allowing full interchangeability of Fusion projects between MacOS, Windows and Linux platforms. It will be especially welcomed by shops which have Linux installations for grading, VFX, compositing or motion graphics work, while relying upon Mac or Windows machines for editing and finishing. The release notes also indicate improved DNG matching with DaVinci Resolve.

As a general caveat, though, to those who use or plan to use Fusion, certain third party OpenFX filters are not compatible as of the moment with Fusion. I have noted that Fusion will crash or hang at start up if Red Giant Universe is installed on the system. Fusion users are definitely advised to check plug-in compatibility.

Fusion remains available both in its free version as well as the $995 Studio version.

The Fusion 8.2 Update is available as a free download on Blackmagic Design's site.
