Adobe is leaning into its latest Firefly Image Model to provide some interesting new capabilities for Photoshop users.
Some new creative goodies for Photoshop users. "Today we’re introducing new innovations across Photoshop on desktop, web and mobile that eliminate tedious
steps, reduce friction, and make precision editing faster and more intuitive, so you can spend less time on repetitive tasks and more time focused on what matters most: bringing your creative visions to life," says Adobe's Deepa Subramaniam.
Here's what's new.
Generative Upscale (Beta)

Available on desktop and web, Adobe says this is capable of bringing high-quality resolution enhancements up to 8 megapixels to images without sacrificing image clarity and at 2x, 3x, or 4x scale. "This has been one of the most requested updates from the Photoshop community and is a powerful new creative tool that delivers sharper, more detailed results with minimal effort," writes the company.
Improved Remove Tool
The improved Remove tool is powered by the latest Adobe Firefly Image Model, is available on Photoshop desktop and web, helps you delete elements from your images with more precision and quality than ever before. As well as deletion, it also generates realistic content that fills the gaps with increased quality and accuracy, and edits blend more naturally into the background with fewer artefacts.
Projects (Beta)
Projects (desktop only for now) is a new way to manage and organize creative work by bringing assets together into a shared, organized space. This should work to eliminate common pain points such as files being scattered across local drives, slow and fragmented collaboration, and the need to manually send individual assets back and forth. Projects lets users share entire collections at once, reducing versioning issues and keeping the creative process moving forward smoothly.
Harmonize (Beta)
First previewed as Project Perfect Blend at Adobe MAX in October 2024, the Firefly-driven Harmonize debuts in beta mode across all platforms and is designed to help users blend elements into compositions. The idea is that when you add a new object to a composition, Harmonize intelligently analyzes the surrounding context, automatically adjusting color, lighting, shadows, and visual tone to create seamless, cohesive composites. This should reduce the time taken for manual adjustments when dropping new material into a shot.
Gen AI Model Picker
Finally, a new capability within Photoshop desktop allows you to choose between different Firefly Image Models (Firefly Image 1 and Firefly Image 3) when using Photoshop’s Generative Fill and Generative Expand tools. Each Firefly model has unique strengths and styles and the Model Picker
Elsewhere in the Adobe lineup this has already been extended to fold in LLM models from third party providers, so it would not be unreasonable to expect the same to happen here soon.
Pricing and Availability
All these features are available now under the usual Creative Cloud subscription plans. Photoshop’s are in the beta on desktop and on the web, and head here for the latest version of Photoshop mobile on iOS.
