The Peak Design Pro Tripod Kickstarter campaign includes three different designs, and builds upon Peak Design's game changing Travel Tripod from over six years ago.

Based in San Francisco, Peak Design has created several different products for both production and travel, including the original Travel Tripod, Micro Clutch (to keep from dropping a camera), travel bags, and other items. Peak Design is 100% crowdfunded and has had many successful campaigns, but this is one of the most overly-subscribed we've yet seen.

The Peak Design Pro Tripod was developed with Jimmy Chin, the legendary professional mountain athlete (climber, skier, and more), Oscar-winning filmmaker, and photographer. He was looking for a sturdy and highly portable tripod that could be used in just about any environment.

The Pro Tripod's legs are made from carbon fiber which keeps it light yet sturdy, a CNC-machined aluminum hub, and a flanged center column also made from carbon fiber. They promise instant camera attachment, a new Pro Ball Head (redundant locking, single-ring adjustment, and can be set to portrait) , fluid panning and tilt, gen 2 leg locks, high-grip feet, and more.

But what Peak Design promises is that the Pro Tripod is truly portable, 66.3 in. (168.4 cm) deployed and 19.7 in. (50.1 cm) collapsed. It stays lightweight thanks in part to the carbon fiber and it weighs 4.2 lbs. (1.9 kg). It can support up to 40 lbs. (18.1 kg).

The company also developed a Pro Tall Tripod, which is 77 in. (197.4 cm) deployed and 22.9 in. (58.1 cm) collapsed. It weighs 4.5 lbs. (2 kg) and supports up to 40 lbs. (18.1 kg).  For those looking for a smaller version, the Pro Tripod Lite deploys at 3.7 lbs. (1.7 kg) plus it collapses down to only 19.2 in. (48.8 cm) and 64 in. (162.5 cm) deployed. It can hold up to 35 lbs. (15.9 kg).

A must-have add-on is the Tilt Mod which will enhance panning and titling. The handle deploys out to 14.3 in. (36.5 cm). Another is the Pro Leveling Base to use any third-party tripod head and also features 20 degrees of articulation, built-in bubble leveling, and a 3/8"-16 attachment. Other add-ons also include the Creator Kit and Mobile Mount.

All versions of the Peak Design Pro Tripod come with a standard plate, carrying sleeve, and hex tool.

As with any crowd funding campaign, there are always risks involved, such as the product doesn't ship. However, Peak Design has had over a dozen successful campaigns over the past few years.
