Panasonic announces firmware update for LUMIX S5II and S5IIX cameras

Panasonic has unveiled a substantial firmware update for its full-frame mirrorless LUMIX S5II and S5IIX cameras, promising improved shooting experiences and enhanced sharing functionalities for both images and videos. 

One of the key features of the firmware update is the integration of camera-to-cloud functionality with Frame.io. This integration allows users to seamlessly upload recorded content to the Frame.io platform via Wi-Fi or USB tethering for sharing captured photos (JPEG/RAW) and Proxy videos. The Proxy Video Recording feature enables simultaneous recording of low bit-rate proxy files during video capture. This enhancement aims to streamline data transfer, editing, and post-production processes, ensuring quicker and smoother workflows for content creators.

Panasonic has also refined the real-time autofocus system of the LUMIX S5II and S5IIX cameras enhancing the Phase Hybrid autofocus. The improved system boasts efficient recognition of subjects amidst multiple subjects. Additionally, the autofocus system now includes animal eye recognition functionality, designed for photographers capturing wildlife, and a car and motorcycle recognition function, tailored for motorsports enthusiasts.

The firmware update also introduces a new High mode to the E-Stabilization function. This feature corrects any shakes when shooting on the move, ensuring smoother video footage. Furthermore, perspective distortion correction has been integrated to address distortion during video shooting with wide-angle lenses.
