Metabones' Mark II+ Speed Booster and Smart Adapter bring TruePDAF autofocus and a stop of light to Canon EF lenses on Fujifilm X-mount cameras. Pricing starts at $399, shipping September 2026.

Metabones has overhauled its Canon EF to Fujifilm X-mount adapter line, announcing a Mark II+ generation of both its Speed Booster and Smart Adapter. Available in both standard and CINE-badged versions, the updated models are released a year and a half after the company's original Mark II CINE models arrived in January 2025, and are aimed at providing improvements for filmmakers running older Canon EF glass on modern Fujifilm cinema and mirrorless bodies.

Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x II+

mb_spef-x-bt4_bThe headline product is the Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x II+, which uses a 5-element/4-group optical design built with tantalum-based glass from Caldwell Photographic. It pulls the X-mount's APS-C crop factor down from 1.5x to 1.07x and adds a full stop of light in the process. That means a 50 mm f/1.2 lens becomes an effective 35.5 mm f/0.9.

Smart Adapter II+

mb_ef-x-bt4_bSitting alongside it is the Smart Adapter II+, which skips any optical correction and focuses instead on getting autofocus and aperture control talking properly between Canon lenses and Fujifilm bodies. Metabones says its TruePDAF technology, built on a reverse-engineered version of Fujifilm's communication protocol, supports phase-detection autofocus "no matter which AF lens is used," alongside electronic aperture control and in-body and optical image stabilization support.

Both adapters also gain improved internal flocking to reduce stray reflections.

CINE versions of each adapter add T-stop display support on compatible cinema lenses and cameras, along with smooth iris and electronic manual focus control, aimed at production use rather than stills or run-and-gun work.

All four adapters share the same build: aluminum alloy and brass with chromium plating, a satin finish, a sealed rubber gasket for dust and moisture resistance, and a detachable Arca-Swiss-compatible tripod foot.

Compatibility covers Fujifilm's X-H series, X-Pro 2, X-T2 and newer, and the X-S10, which effectively covers most of the company's current APS-C mirrorless and cinema-adjacent bodies. For production users, that means Canon EF cinema glass, along with Sigma, Tamron and other third-party EF-mount lenses, can be paired with Fujifilm's X-mount cameras without losing autofocus or aperture control.

Pricing and availability

Pricing runs from $399 for the Smart Adapter II+ up to $699 for the CINE Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x II+, with the standard Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x II+ at $649 and the CINE Smart Adapter II+ at $449. All four are due to ship in September 2026.

Metabones is also supporting existing customers through the transition. Owners of the original Mark II adapters get a free firmware 1.70 upgrade that carries over some of the new performance improvements, while Mark I owners receive a more limited firmware update focused on autofocus gains, with an upgrade path to the new hardware available through Metabones' customer service.
