Halide 3.2 adds continuous f-number control to the iPhone 18 Pro. Aperture Priority, full manual ISO, and two new looks come with it for those of us on older models.
Completing, at least for now, the cycle of top iOS camera apps that have updated to accommodate the new variable aperture lens in the iPhone 18 Pro series, Lux’s ever-popular Halide 3.2 adds variable aperture control. As ever with Halide, this extends what you can do with the phone significantly. The default iPhone camera app offers four presets, while Halide lets users select any f-number from ƒ/1.48 to ƒ/4.0.
Aperture control comes in two styles. Aperture Priority lets users set a target f-number, with Halide picking shutter speed and ISO. Halide also offers full manual controls as well, including ISO, which Lux says is missing from Apple's camera app despite its new manual shutter speed and aperture control.
“As I dove down the rabbit hole to find out why, I reached two thousand words and decided the iPhone 18 Pro deserves a much longer deep-dive. Stay tuned,” writes Lux co-founder Ben Sandofsky. Color us intrigued.
Two new looks are included. Dawn (above) features filmic warmth in mid-tones and highlights, with what the company describes as rich yet gentle shadows and subtle complementary cool colors. Quicksilver (below) combines high contrast and muted color to simulate a silver-retention alternative process. All of Halide's film simulations are available on all devices.
Pricing and availability
Halide 3.2 is available now and, of course, runs on all iPhones not just the 18. Price is $69.99 one-time or $19.99 a year.
