Ghost Kits looks to provide always-on connectivity to multiple camera brands

Ghost Kits’ Specter camera connectivity system is coming before the end of the year and preorders are open now for the $849 device.

One of the products that caught our attention at NAB and we should really have mentioned before now is Specter from Ghost Kits which has been designed to provide an “always on” accessible camera connection for professional production environments.

“By actively managing bandwidth allocation, intelligently routing across multiple network pathways, and providing hardware specifically designed for seamless camera integration, this system eliminates the connectivity uncertainties that have historically compromised remote production quality,” the company says.

Specter has been tested with Sony, Fujifilm, Nikon, Lumix, and Canon workflows, and the company says it should work with any WiFi integrated camera and also all major cellular carriers via its open SIM capability. This dual connectivity creates redundant transmission pathways that provide crucial backup options if primary connections degrade, also meaning that the unit should also work even in radio frequency-congested environments or challenging physical locations.

Ghost Kits says that the system delivers:
  • Compatibility with all major camera brands and models
  • Automatic signal routing that bypasses interference
  • Connection to over 600 carriers in 190 countries, maintaining 5G connections pretty much anywhere
  • Quick recovery from signal interruptions without data loss
  • Universal mount capabilities. Mount to the top of your camera via the shoe, or the bottom via the tripod screw

And can be powered directly from the camera's USB-C port or internal battery. It also weighs under 2 pounds, meaning that it won't seriously impact your rig.

The ability to enable camera-to-cloud workflows from pretty much any camera and anywhere is certainly an interesting one. Specter should release by the end of the year for $849.
