Plenty of new features in the latest Frame.io Version 4 release, including smarter navigation, deeper Share insights, speaker-aware transcripts, developer-first API improvements, and more.

There are whole load of new features that have been recently added to Frame.io Version 4, with possibly the most useful one to many users being Share Activity tracking. As Frame.io puts it with some feeling, "No more chasing down feedback over email or Slack." Share Activity tracking lets you see whether a Share was opened, which assets were viewed or downloaded, and if comments were left.

The idea behind providing that extra context is that it means fewer check-ins for users and clearer next steps as well; helping projects move forward faster and improving communication with stakeholders.

Speaker ID, meanwhile, lets users identify and label different speakers in audio or video files, either with their names or more prosaically Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on. This should make transcripts easier to follow and faster to scan for reviewing, editing, or creating caption purposes. More improvements are on the way here too, though Adobe also cautions that Speaker ID may not be available in some regions due to biometric laws for web products.

Navigation to Collections has been improved via a new All Collections page at the top of the Collections list within each project. This lets users see all Collections across a project in one view, making it much easier to find, manage, and keep track of important work.

There's also a new Dynamic Uploader, which means that upload jobs that exceed 24 hours can now complete successfully in the web app. This is especially useful for teams working with large RAW files or high-resolution media, and provides fault-tolerant, large file uploads up to 5TB.

Elsewhere, a new Flatten Folders banner lets you know what's active, users can now view an asset directly in its Project from a Share, and there's the new ability to swipe or scroll through a PDF using a mouse or trackpad.

Developers have been shown some love too. There's early access to a new feature that allows them to define custom metadata fields once and apply them across every project in an account. This is going to provide increased consistency in how assets are tagged, searched, and managed, as well as providing the ability to scale without recreating fields every time.

And event-driven workflows with webhooks are now available to everyone. These let developers build event-driven automations that respond to changes in real time—and they’re now fully production-ready for all users on the V4 API. It will be interesting to see what they do with them...
