CVP has launched Warranty+, an extended warranty program for pro kit that extends cover by up to four years and is actioned by its own repair engineers and network.
CVP has launched an interesting new program for its customers dubbed Warranty+. As the name suggests, it is an extended warranty programme covering eligible products against mechanical and electrical breakdown once the original manufacturer's warranty expires.
Available on new equipment purchased from CVP with a unit value below £10,000, the program extends cover by one, two, three, or four years over and above the manufacturer-backed warranty. Pricing starts at £21.74 for one year, £40.67 for two years, £59.00 for three years, and £65.00 for four years, giving a maximum of five years combined cover (though the four-year extension is only available on products carrying a standard one-year manufacturer warranty).
Cover can be added at checkout, through a CVP account manager, or retrospectively up to nine months after purchase, provided the manufacturer's warranty is still active. Ex-demo equipment is eligible subject to a CVP engineer inspection; used equipment is not eligible.
There is no limit on the number of claims, though if a repair cost exceeds 70% of the original purchase price, CVP will offer a replacement of equivalent specification or a refund up to the original purchase value. Warranty+ is offered worldwide, with repairs carried out at CVP's Brentford or Belgium facilities by ProRepairs engineers, or through authorized service partners around the globe. Return shipping after repair is covered, but inbound shipping is not so customers will have to get the kit to CVP first. Either way, CVP acts as a single point of contact throughout.
The fine print
As you would expect, there is some small print. Excluded from cover: accidental damage, liquid damage, theft, loss, batteries and consumables, cosmetic damage, software or data issues, and equipment modified or repaired by unauthorized parties. As with most insurance products, at least in the UK, a 30-day cooling-off cancellation period applies from purchase. CVP Warranty+ can be transferred to a new owner if the equipment is sold, and can also be included in a CVF finance agreement.
We had a quick look at what is on offer from other major resellers and Warranty+ does stand out for the way in which CVP runs the repairs globally through its own engineers and service network rather than routing claims through a third party. While other schemes such as Adorama Protect (powered by Extend) offer broader coverage in the US market, including accidental damage, that single point of contact is a proper selling point for busy pros that don’t need any extra admin burden.
