Boris FX has acquired iZotope, adding RX, Ozone, and its full audio plugin lineup to a company already known for a strong roster of VFX tools.

Boris FX has acquired iZotope, the audio software company behind RX and Ozone, along with its mixing, vocal processing, and metering plugins.

RX has an excellent reputation for dialogue repair and restoration. Both it and Ozone, iZotope's mastering plugin, join Boris FX's existing lineup of Continuum, Sapphire, Mocha Pro, Silhouette, and SynthEyes. Boris FX had already moved into audio before this deal, with Sequoia, Samplitude, and CrumplePop already part of the company.

Boris FX says its commitment to its existing VFX and editing tools is unchanged, and it plans to expand further into audio post-production.

Todd Baker, iZotope's VP of Product, remains in that role to lead iZotope's roadmap going forward. The engineers behind RX, Ozone, Neutron, and Nectar stay in place, and product development continues without interruption.

Wider consolidation

The acquisition follows a decade in which Boris FX has brought once standalone VFX developers Imagineer, GenArts, and Silhouette into the company, reflecting wider consolidation in the post industry. Only last week Adobe acquired Topaz Labs, and with Apple also building out its all-in-one Creator Studio offering, it looks like other companies in the space have also decided that expanding the breadth of their offerings is the best way to compete and stay relevant.

All iZotope products, licenses, and subscriptions remain fully active, with uninterrupted support through the same channels, and the company says that perpetual licenses will remain available alongside subscriptions.

"You've seen us do this before," comments Boris FX founder and CEO, Boris Yamnitsky. "Over the past decade, we've welcomed Imagineer, GenArts, Silhouette, and others into the family. Each time, those tools didn't just keep going; they got better. iZotope is the next chapter in our story, and certainly one of the most significant.

"My vision has always been a Boris FX where everything you see and everything you hear is handled by tools built to the same uncompromising standard. With iZotope, we're closer to that than we've ever been."
