Aputure Announces NOVA 9° 2x1 and NOVA II 1x1 panel lights

Aputure has introduced two new NOVA LED panel fixtures, the NOVA 9° 2x1 hyper narrow beam panel and the NOVA II 1x1, alongside a new three-panel yoke array and a range of accessories.

LED panels look like being an active area in lighting this year already, with Aputure's two new NOVA LED panel fixtures joining the company's growing lineup.

"With the new NOVAs, Aputure has reinvented the panel light,” comments Mitch Gross, Aputure’s Global Director of Marketing. “The NOVA 9° 2x1 is a completely new concept, with a hyper narrow beam powerful enough to replicate direct sunlight over long throws. Stack three of them in our new 3-Light yoke, and you can even use it outside in daylight, all while running off a single household circuit.”

Aputure highlights the NOVA 9° 2x1 3-Light Kit first, and you can see why it does. This is a hyper narrow beam panel array utilizing three 650W NOVA 9° 2x1 panels in a single yoke. It is designed to throw bright, directional, tunable white light over great distances with pleasing shadow quality to replicate natural sunlight. With output greater than a 12,000W tungsten lamp at full spot at 10 meters (21,070 lux vs 17,400 lux) but the shallow footprint associated with LED panels, that makes it a good choice for use with reflectors, through windows, or wherever beams of sunlight are needed.

As an aside, the NOVA 2x1 3-Light Yoke can also be used with the NOVA II 2x1 lights.

A new Extended BLAIR light engine offers an expanded CCT range of 1800 - 20,000K, with full ASC MITC range +/- Green adjustment. We've talked about the BLAIR engine before, but essentially Indigo emitters in the Extended BLAIR engine enhance the colors of naturally fluorescing materials, just like sunlight, and the Extended Red emitters enrich skin tones.

The NOVA 9° 2x1 is also available as an individual hyper narrow beam panel and uses the same accessories as the NOVA II 2x1. Performance is still impressive even when running solo. At 5 meters, the NOVA 9° 2x1 is twice as bright as a 5000W tungsten fresnel at full spot (28,090 lux vs 14,920 lux).

The 500W NOVA II 1x1, meanwhile, brings Aputure’s BLAIR-CG light engine to a smaller panel format, with tunable white from 1800K to 20,000K and coverage of more than 90% of the Rec.2020 color space. Aputure says the fixture has a unique “focus-then-blend” optical design that delivers a direct 35° beam. This remains bright when diffused, providing increased versatility with no visible color fringing on subjects.

Both fixtures share a structural design aimed at balancing low noise, reduced weight, and IP65 weather protection. The NOVA 9° 2x1 weighs 19.65 kg / 43.32 lbs with yoke, the NOVA II 1x1 11.35 kg / 25.02 lbs.

Multiple Accessories

Both lights launch alongside new additions to the NOVA accessories ecosystem. The 1x1 versions of the NOVA accessories match their 2x1 counterparts, and share features like the front loading QuickClip system for easy attachment and stacking. The NOVA 9° 2x1 is compatible with all of the accessories already available for the NOVA II 2x1. The Softbox and Fabric Control Grid were designed and manufactured in collaboration with DoPchoice.
