amaran Unveils Flagship Ray Series Full-Color COBs

The new amaran Ray Series delivers from 60-660W in four smaller, smarter packages that are designed to cover everything from ultra-mobile shoots to dedicated studio spaces.

The amaran Ray Series is Aputure’s latest full-color COB lineup, bringing a new OmniColor light engine to portable and studio-grade lighting.The four-model lineup — amaran Ray 60c (60W), 120c (120W), 360c (360W), and 660c (660W) — leans into that OmniColor light engine to deliver higher output, truer color reproduction, and more consistent skin tones than previous-generation amaran full-color COBs.

"Together, these fixtures mark a major evolution of the amaran COB family – brighter, more color-accurate, and engineered without the bulk typically associated with studio-grade output," says the company.

OmniColor Light Engine

OmniColor is amaran’s new full-color light engine. Building on the brand’s previous full-color chipsets, OmniColor expands the red and blue ranges and introduces an indigo emitter to deliver a fuller, more balanced spectrum of light – achieving SSI scores of 87 (Tungsten) and 80 (D56). The upshot should be cleaner whites, truer skin tones, and more accurate color that stays consistent on camera.

The lights naturally divide in two. So, starting with the Ray 60c & 120c, these have been designed for mobile shooting and portability. That means they are slim (4.4 cm and 5.1 cm / 1.73 in and 2.01 in respectively) and lightweight (528 g and 599 g / 18.62 oz and 21.13 oz). Despite their diminutive nature, they still feature a full-size Bowens Mount for pairing with amaran softboxes and modifiers.

Performance is impressive. The Ray 60c delivers 50% more output in a body roughly half the size of the amaran COB 60x S, while the Ray 120c provides 22% more output than the amaran 150c with nearly an 85% reduction in size. That works out at 3760 lux and 6520 lux @ 1m, 5600K respectively.

Using the amaran Ace E-Lock system with the all-new compact amaran Peak 75 (launching in January) and amaran Peak battery systems, users can build a secure, cable-free handheld or stand-mounted setup in seconds. The Ray 60c runs for 46 minutes on the amaran Peak 75, while the Ray 120c runs for 35 minutes on the amaran Peak, both measured at 100% output.

 In addition to the included DC power adapter, the Ray 60c and 120c support USB-C PD input for flexible, travel-friendly power from a wide range of  power banks and chargers.

These fixtures also come standard as ready-to-shoot kits, complete with the all-new amaran Octa Dome 30 Softbox, Diffuser and Grid, Ace Lock to Baby Pin Adapter Grip, Power Adapter, and Cable – all packed in a dedicated bag.

amaran Ray 360c & 660c

The amaran Ray 360c (360W) and 660c (660W) mark the brand’s entrance into the 600W power class for those who need more power to light larger spaces. Designed for dedicated studio environments, these fixtures bring accurate color and high output into all-in-one builds that run on a single AC cable, while still keeping workflows creator-friendly in tune with the brand ethos.

Both fixtures integrate the power supply directly into the light head, running from a single AC cable with no bulky external power brick to carry, mount, or manage. The company says that the Ray 660c is also the first full-color COB in its power class to achieve this streamlined, all-in-one design.

Again, there are performance improvements over the previous generation.  Building on the success of the amaran 300c, the Ray 360c delivers over 80% more output, making it the new workhorse for studio creators. The Ray 660c stands as the brightest amaran COB to date, giving creators the headroom to light from farther distances and cover wider studio spaces. Figures here are 17,040 lux and 37,900 lux @ 1m, 5600K respectively.

Both fixtures introduce DMX control via an optional USB-C to 5-Pin DMX In & Out Adapter, allowing studio and production teams to integrate the Ray 360c and 660c into industry-standard lighting console workflows for precise cueing and multi-light synchronization.
