Only a handful of months after it premiered on iOS, Photoshop hits Android devices with a range of features that are currently free while it's in beta.
Photoshop made its mobile debut in February with the launch of a free iOS app. Android at the time was billed as 'coming later this year', so it's good to see that we're not halfway through 2025 yet and, starting today, the Adobe Photoshop (beta) app is available for download for free from Google Play on Android devices.
It's not all devices, as you would expect. You need to be running Android 11 or later, with a minimum of 6GB of RAM, and 8GB or more is recommended for optimal performance.
Adobe says that Android users can access all the app’s features for free during the initial beta period, with additional capabilities coming soon. Available now:
- Combine and blend images using core Photoshop tools like selections, layers, and masks
- Quickly remove or replace parts of an image with the intuitive Tap Select tool
- Brush away distractions in seconds using tools like the Spot Healing Brush
- Use Firefly-powered generative AI features like Generative Fill to effortlessly add or transform elements in visual designs
- Enhance creative work with a growing library of free Adobe Stock assets
- Make accurate selections with Object Select and Magic Wand
- Refine images with advanced tools like Remove and Clone Stamp
- Control layers and effects with advanced blend modes and adjustment layers
Some of this will probably end up paywalled after the app move out of beta into the full release, certainly the company likes to throttle genAI credits. The current iOS Photoshop mobile and web subscription costs $7.99 a month or $69.99 a year, and we'd expect this to follow the same path.
