Adobe's Premiere Elements adds AI-powered highlights generation for the consumer audience

There are now over 20 AI-powered features across Adobe's one-time purchase, consumer-oriented  Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements packages.

While Adobe has pursued the subscription model for its Creative Cloud packages with great success, it has always recognised that there's a consumer market for its products for which that model really isn't going to fly. That's where it's $99 Adobe Premiere Elements and Adobe Photoshop Elements packages come in (also bundled together for $149.99); boxed software offering a decent proportion of the features of their Creative Cloud counterparts.

There are trade-offs to this, of course. In Premiere Pro Elements there's no Lumetri Color panel, fewer audio editing tools, fewer text options and supported file formats...that sort of thing. And, of course, you have to pay to upgrade to the new version. But as of the new 2024 releases, there are now a whole host of new features powered by Adobe-Sensei AI-based upgrades, which certainly make them a powerful choice for the consumer looking to do a little bit more (or anyone looking to get their feet wet in a new skillset).

New AI features across both packages include:

Automatic video highlight reels – Quickly turn clips into videos that draw people in by focusing on motion, close-ups, and highest-quality footage

One-click photo selections for easier editing – Automatic selections make it simple to enhance or replace just one area.

JPEG artefacts removal – Click once to enhance compressed JPEGs with this new option in the Quick Actions panel

New Artistic Effect options – Click once to add effects inspired by famous works of art or popular art styles.

There's plenty else in there too that's not AI driven. Adobe Premiere Elements gains new audio effects such as Reverb, Vocal Enhancer, and DeHummer, and a new editing UI with light and dark mode options. Adobe Photoshop Elements, meanwhile, adds fast-moving Photo reels, Adobe Stock access, one-click edits and a whole lot more. Check out Adobe's Elements Family page for details.
