The new Uni LensCap is designed to be a next-generation universal lens cover offering a snug, tear-resistant fit and shock-absorbing protection.
Lens caps are one of those simple, everyday aspects of life that function well enough but you always have the sneaking suspicion they could do better with a bit of thought. And there are enough of them out there in the world that companies do keep trying as, if you can make every photographer think they need at least one of your own brand, then you're potentially going to make a fair deal of money.
Latest entrant in the field is the Uni LensCap from DIY Photography, which the company says has been engineered to fit 99% of DSLR and mirrorless lenses, and cover lenses, hoods, and filters alike (though it performs best on barrels measuring 60–90mm in diameter).
At its center is a precision-molded flat top which is surrounded by the new Impact Guard Ridge—a low-profile, ribbed structure that diffuses shock and shields the lens face from direct impact. Combined with a reinforced retention ring, the designers say it should fit securely on pretty much everything and won’t stretch or slip, regardless of how often it's used.
It's waterproof, dustproof, shockproof, washable, and also extremely blue so you're going to be able to get your hands on it quickly wherever you are.
