Teradek's IBC2026 Award-winning Bolt 7 merges zero-delay wireless video with a 900 MHz data channel for camera control. Colin McDonald and Derek Nickell explain all.
One of the highlights of this years IBC, and one of our deserved IBC2026 Award winners, was the Teradek Bolt 7.
Teradek's Colin McDonald and Derek Nickell are your guides to its capabilities, and it’s impressive stuff. The headline change is a parallel data pipeline: where previous Bolt systems handled zero-delay SDI cable replacement only, Bolt 7 adds Ethernet and USB cable replacement in the same wireless link, reducing the number of devices needed on camera.
The Bolt 7 transmitter is 20% smaller than the outgoing Bolt 6 XT, achieved partly by integrating two antennas directly into the unit, while still supporting 12G-SDI video.
A live demonstration pairs a Sony FX6, connected via USB, with a Bolt transmitter sending 4K video and data to a SmallHD monitor over an Ethernet-connected receiver, giving full camera control, including live gain changes, from the monitor itself.
