L-Rumors says multiple sources point to a new Sigma fp II, with a built-in viewfinder and a price around $2500.
This is one that may be more smoke than fire to be honest, but the Sigma fp could be about to get a successor. Camera rumor site L-Rumors says that multiple trusted sources have told it the Sigma fp II will launch "soon", and that it will be a very cine-focused camera.
The reported spec list is short but interesting. The camera is said to use a 24 MP full-frame sensor of as yet unknown provenance, with open gate recording and internal RAW. L-Rumors adds that it will have a built-in electronic viewfinder, which would make the fp II slightly larger than the fp L.
That EVF is the headline for a lot of fp users. The original fp and the fp L both relied on an optional add-on viewfinder, which was never a great fit given the compact aesthetic of the camera itself. Building one in would answer a frequent request at the cost of some bulk, but would certainly be less unwieldy than a bolt-on unit (below).

The resolution is the other surprise. The fp L went to 61 MP, so a return to 24 MP looks like either a step back or a sign that the camera is aiming firmly at the video market.
Pricing is rumored at around $2500, with a potential November or even October announcement; October 24 has been floated as a possible date.
So, what to make of this one? On the one hand, as camera rumors go it seems rather outlandish. Both the fp and fp L were discontinued in June 2025, shortly after the Sigma BF launched, and the mood music from Sigma has been all about moving away from cameras aimed at the cine market.
On the other hand, Sigma has developed quite a good reputation for zigging where others zag, and is one of the camera companies most able to throw a decent curveball into the market. And let’s face it, there is currently a Sony FX5-sized hole in the market. A fp II is unlikely to have the FX5’s out-and-out cine chops, but at around half the price it could make a compelling argument.
