Laowa Ranger Lite Cine Zooms now available

1 minute read

The Venus Optics Ranger Lite Cine Zooms feature a new magnesium alloy housing for increased durability and 10% less weight than the standard versions.

We first talked about the new Ranger Lite Cine Zooms lenses back in September when they were first announced, and Venus Optics now confirms the release of the 28-75mm T2.9 and 75-180mm T2.9 as well as pricing.

The space grey Ranger Lite version shares the same optical design as the standard version, but their magnesium alloy housing adds increased durability, according to the company, and shaves 10% off the weight. The whole Ranger series offers an all-rounded zoom range and a T2.9 large aperture, making them a good fit for productions that require dealing with different lighting situations and need to deliver quality results without heavy setups.

Here’s the key features list:

  • Long and versatile zoom range
  • Constant T2.9 aperture
  • Extremely close focus distance
  • Parfocal design
  • Well-controlled with almost no focus breathing
  • Exceptional image quality
  • Quick back-focus adjustment mechanism
  • Interchangeable PL/ EF mount
  • Additional mirrorless mounts are available (E/ RF/ Z/ L)

Both versions are parfocal design, guaranteeing precise focus control while zooming. This allows a really close focus to 49cm (1'7") for the 28-75mm lens. The new lite version also comes with the same quick back focus adjustment mechanism as the standard version, saving lens preparation time from the cumbersome shimming process.

Prices for the Laowa Ranger Lites are $3499 each, a distinct increase on the $2999 the company was talking about in September and $500 more than the standard Rangers.  The two lens bundle pricing brings that per lens cost down a bit, however, and comes in at $6799. The additional mirrorless mount price is $100.
