Canon Cinema EOS updates bring USB device control and SRT auto-reconnect to the C400 and C80, while the C50 gets the same features plus several extra fixes.

Canon has begun rolling out the Cinema EOS firmware update it previewed back in April, with new versions now live for the EOS C400, EOS C80, and EOS C50.

Canon first detailed the update ahead of NAB 2026, promising it would arrive "this summer,” and has been as good as its word. Canon's own firmware advisories, posted June 25, confirm the C400 and C80 are both now on version 1.0.6.1, with the C50 on version 1.0.4.1.

Overall upgrades

The headline is that all three cameras gain USB connection support for external device control. With the power switch set to camera mode, an externally connected device can now operate Start/Stop Recording, One-Shot AF, Manual Focus Adjustment, Iris, Shutter Speed, and ISO Speed over USB. They also share a level indicator that now changes color once the camera is properly level, and automatic reconnection attempts during SRT streaming if the connection drops, continuing for the duration set in the SRT Reconnection Timeout setting.

The C400 and C80 changelogs are identical. Beyond the shared features above, version 1.0.6.1 fixes an issue that could interfere with connecting to an FTP server, fixes an issue that could prevent the camera being recognized when connected to a smartphone via USB, and includes a general improvement to operational stability.

C50 additions

The C50's version 1.0.4.1 carries a longer list of additions and fixes:

  • Ease In/Ease Out added to Digital Zoom Speed, smoothing transitions at the start and end of digital zoom moves
  • View Assist can now be applied and adjusted during playback
  • Broadcast and multicast (same segment only) transmission methods added to the CV Protocol
  • A new communication setting menu for selecting an OpenLensIO-Equiv. model
  • When registering a Look File, its description can now be referenced and reflected in Custom Picture settings
  • A fix for certain CFexpress cards failing to format in-camera
  • A fix for Digital IS metadata not being output correctly when Recording Mode is set to Slow & Fast Motion, the frame rate is below 24P, and Shutter Manual is set to Angle at 180.00° or below
  • A fix for the camera not being recognised when connected to a smartphone via USB
  • A general improvement to operational stability

This batch of updates follows the wider Cinema EOS firmware program Canon announced in April, which also covers the EOS C70 and EOS R5C and brought 3:2 open gate RAW recording to the C400. Firmware downloads and the full advisory text are available from Canon's support site for the EOS C400, EOS C80, and EOS C50.
