Atomos has announced a major firmware update that brings integrated camera control to the Ninja TX GO and Ninja TX, its new CFexpress-based monitor-recorders.
Following a successful deployment of camera control on the Shinobi platform, the Atomos engineering team has now built that functionality into the Ninja TX monitor-recorder series via a firmware upgrade to version 12.2.0.
Enabled via the USB-C port, camera control is now offered for most mirrorless models from Canon, Panasonic, Sony, Fujifilm, Nikon, and for popular lines such as the EOS R and D-Series, LUMIX, Sony Alpha, Fujifilm X-Series, and Nikon Z-Series. All Z CAM E2 series models are also supported via a separately purchased LANC cable.
Offloaded Controls
That means that a decent amount of functions — start and stop, essential settings such as ISO, shutter, white balance — can be offloaded from the camera to a 1500-nit touchscreen, including touch-to-focus on some models. All this can be handy at the best of times, even more so when your camera is set up in a place where accessibility to the onboard menus is a challenge.
Widening Support
"Support is continually expanding through firmware updates, and in most cases, your camera should work with the Camera Control feature if it supports tethered shooting over USB-C and is running the latest firmware," says the company.
The full list of supported cameras is available below and will be updated on the Atomos website here.
“The camera control functionality introduced on our Shinobi II and Shinobi 7 RX monitors has been hugely popular, and our engineering team has made it an even better experience on the new Ninja TX GO and Ninja TX monitor-recorders,” said Peter Barber, Atomos CEO. “The superior Ninja TX series onboard computer processing and Linux operating system give us the power to innovate faster and deliver more features to creators. This is a free update that makes it easier than ever to adjust camera settings, start shooting, and stay focused on the story, not the gear.”
Pricing and Availability
Firmware version 12.2.0 is available now as a free of charge, over-the-air update for both Ninja TX GO and Ninja TX.
