Puget Systems moves into mobile computing market

2 minute read

Puget Systems' first laptop is a powerful 17-inch beast that looks like it should be able to handle pretty much everything that users can throw at it.

For several years, Puget Systems has been building powerful workstations for editing, visual effects, and more. Now it is moving into the mobile computing market with the high performance and customizable Puget Mobile 17” laptop, as well as some portable storage systems.

Packing a punch

The new Puget Mobile 17” laptop will feature:

  • Intel Core i9 14900HX CPU
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 mobile GPU
  • 17.3-inch QHD screen with 240Hz refresh rate and fantastic color accuracy
  • Up to 64GB DDR5 RAM
  • First SSD up to 8TB
  • Second and third SSDs up to 8TB each (you read that right, up to three separate SSDs totaling 24TB)

A few years back, I worked with Puget Systems to build a workstation for a review, and it was a true monster, handling everything I threw at it. I’m confident the Puget Mobile 17” will do the same.

While desktops are incredible and very powerful at handling things like cutting 8K RAW footage filmed on a RED V-RAPTOR XL Vista Vision, a laptop gives you obviously more mobile advantages. Especially when you’re on set (virtual or otherwise) or on location and need to dump footage onto a drive and perhaps open up VEGAS Pro to start cutting the clips.

A laptop is definitely a no-brainer, but there's more to it than just, "here's our laptop." Puget Systems is well-known for their incredible workstations and they clearly spent time working on the Puget Mobile 17" with the customer in mind who need not only portability, but a lot of horsepower as well. Basically a system that will still be fast and state-of-the-art over time, much like their workstations.

And with those desktop solutions, Puget Systems is still providing the white glove service and support. You're not only getting a state-of-the-art portable workstation, you're also getting proper support to ensure everything from the initial call to support in the future is top notch.

Portable storage

Editors and filmmakers out in the field need great portable storage, and Puget Systems has teamed up with OSNexus to bring a scalable and agile media asset storage solution (SDS, software-defined storage). It will be available in a 12-Bay and 24-Bay 2U form factor with up to 1.5TB of storage utilizing the Quantastor platform. It will be available in the second quarter of 2024.

Puget Systems is the kind of company that takes into account what their customers are doing: Video editing, Photoshop, visual effects, CAD, data crunching, and more. Not only can you choose the right system for your work, you can talk to an expert at Puget Systems to ensure you get a workstation that will help you not only today, but well into the future.

It goes without saying that, based on their successful history, Puget Systems will release some killer laptops that will do well for any situation. Learn more about the Puget Mobile 17” laptop at Puget Systems’ website. Prices start around $3750 and the systems ship next month.
