Panasonic Promotes Hands-On Practical Solutions With UBX100 & More

Panasonic chose Amsterdam to announce its new UBX100 4K multi-purpose camera which also supports what it says is a world’s first in the shape of an autofocus function for 2/3-type 4K box cameras.

The  UBX100 is a box-style 4K camera, “designed to meet the evolving demands of modern video production,” Joshua Milligan of Panasonic UK tells us.

It uses the same 2/3-type bayonet lens mount sensor and processing platform as its existing 4K studio camera UCX100 and the flagship PTZ unit  AW-UE160. This interoperability makes the new addition, “an ideal choice for multi-camera environments.”

The UBX100 supports all your favourite protocols (ST 2110, NDI and SRT) and offers connectivity options through dual 12G-SDI and SFP+/28 ports. An HD optical low-pass filter enhances suppression, “delivering crisp, high-quality imagery even in visually complex scenes."

“We are also going to add a Low Skew Mode to enhance image stability in fast-paced or high-motion productions,” Milligan (above) said.

The auto-focus functionality will be added via a firmware update in Q2 2026.

AW-RP200GJ Controller

Panasonic sales engineer, Benjamin Rausch, was eager to show RSN a brand new remote camera controller. The AW-RP200GJ is an updated version of the AW-RP150.

One of its main features is a joystick on the left hand side for multi-camera control, in addition to main joystick on right for PTZ or focus control. That capacity is handy since control can be scaled up to 200 PTZ cams.

Panasonic’s first remote camera controller to support macro functionality. The device has 20 multi-select switches for camera selection, preset recall and macro execution and each of the 20 user-assignable buttons has its own built-in LCD display.

“Macros are used to assign different tasks to different cameras then automate sequences and manage complex actions with a single button press. It’s the first time we've done it in a controller.

“Either you have all buttons assigned to cameras or presets, or you have a combination between cameras and presets so that you can select the camera and the preset change camera, then switch to another preset, and so on. You can even continue controlling other cameras while a macro is running so a production runs smoothly with fewer staff.”

The RP200 has a web-based interface allows operators to configure settings quickly and the display also supports touch-focus and cropping control for precise framing on PTZ cams.

Suite Effect

For the second year running, the Japanese vendor was showing off its wares in a suite at IBC and not on the show floor. It was invite only. Milligan explained that part of the reason was that they don’t need to bring shiny exhibition set-ups (with all the cost of transport and rigging and space rental that entails) and can better concentrate visitor attention on key products and messaging. What’s more, you don’t have to struggle to make yourself heard above the normal show noise.

“We don’t need to make a song and dance about our technology when we can have solid conversations around practical solutions that our customers can get their hands on.”
