A new computer audio interface from Audient scores with features and construction that separate it from the crowd.

UK audio company Audient has just announced its new USB computer audio interface. There's an awful lot of these devices around now, but this one stands out from the crowd with an excellent Mic Pre Amp and an  additional input for instruments.

The iD4 Compact Audio Interface has a great sounding Mic Pre amp (it's the one found in its ASP 8024 Heritage Edition mixing console), as well as a high quality analogue-to-digital converter.

A significant bonus is a JFET input stage for DI-ing guitars, basses and keyboards. (JFET amplifier stages mimic valve/tube amps with their rich harmonics.)

The main control knob doubles as a 'ScrollControl', essentially a rotary encoder that can be assigned to control virtually anything in a DAW.

The iD4 has a Class A/B headphone amplifier with dual headphone sockets.

It's built to last, with all metal construction, and comes in at a very reasonable $199.

Here's the main feature list:

1 x Class-A Audient Console Mic Preamplifier
High Performance AD/DA Converters
iD ScrollControl Mode
1 x Discrete JFET Instrument Input
Main Speaker Output
Independent Class-AB Headphone Output (dual outputs)
Monitor Control Functionality
USB2.0 Bus Powered
24bit/96khz
All-Metal Enclosure
