AvidMedia Composer | Cloud running on a laptop

As part of the industry’s general move into cloud-based operation, Avid has announced the availability of subscription and flexible licensing options for its Media Composer software.

All part of the company’s Avid Everywhere initiative, users can now elect to deploy and use Media Composer either on their premises or in the cloud via a variety of subscription, floating or perpetual licenses.

Access to the latest Media Composer toolset, support and upgrades starts at $49.99 a month. Alternatively, users can license the software on a perpetual basis (prices start at $1299) and receive one year of Avid support and upgrades, with additional upgrades available thereafter through annual support plan renewal (which is a $299 cost). The Media Composer | Symphony Option is included with both monthly or annual subscriptions.

Media Composer | Software floating licenses, meanwhile, which let larger facilities purchase a pack of shared Media Composer licenses to deploy facility-wide using a single system ID, start at $1,799 per seat. Usefully, admins can also permit users to “check out” licenses, allowing a laptop to be taken off premises equipped with a time-limited license to coincide with the end of a project, for instance.

Media Composer | Cloud (formerly Interplay Sphere) which gives editors the option to connect remotely to access, edit and collaborate with others as if they were on premises, is also available starting from $35,000.
