Tokina has announced a new short 65mm telephoto lens designed for Super35 sensors all the way up to Vista Vision.

The new lens compliments Tokina’s existing range of Cinema Vista lenses, which includes an 18mm, 25mm, 35mm, 45mm, 50mm, 85mm, 105mm, and 135mm models, all with T1.5 light transmission ratings. The 65mm bridges the gap nicely between the 50mm and 85mm models, making for a good alternative ‘natural’ perspective, making it ideal for shots of peoples faces.

The 65mm lens has 13 groups with 14 elements combined with nine iris blades, which creates a nice, round aperture for smooth bokeh. To keep consistency with the existing models it shares the same 114mm front diameter and weighs a similar weight of 2.29kg. There is some variation in length however, so for gimbal and Steadicam work the rig will need rebalancing on a lens change.

It features an imaging area of 46.7mm, making it ideal for large sensor cameras such as the RED Monster 8K VV and Alexa LF Mini. It’s even possible to use the lens on even larger formats such as the ALEXA65 2:1 Open Gate.

The Tokina Cinema Vista 65mm T1.5 and will have an MSRP of $7499 USD. It will be available in interchangeable ARRI PL, EF, MFT, Sony E, and ARRI LPL mounts. Find out more on the Tokina USA website.
