Teradek launches Prism Mobile 5G & Mk II and updates Prism Flex

1 minute read

Teradek has added to its camera back Prism Series of 4K HEVC video encoders with the Prism Mobile 5G and Prism Mobile Mk II, as well as releasing the Prism Flex Mk II desktop encoder.

Let’s start in the OB arena. The Prism Mobile 5G and Mk II both feature 2x integrated high-performance cellular modems (LTE for the Mk II) with private mobile network / CBRS support, twin SIM slots, and an external connection for modem expansion (+1 Node modem). Its low-SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power - new acronym on us, but a good one) industrial design weighs just 864g with Gold or V-mount battery plates. Like the Prism Flex, Prism Mobile is deeply integrated with several camera-to-cloud platforms, including Frame.io, AVID, Sony C3P, Sony Ci, PIX, and Moxion.

Prism Mobile also brings the Teradek Reliable Transport (TRT) protocol to bonded cellular workflows for the first time. This is an ultra-robust, ultra-low latency transport protocol that delivers audio and video over bonded cellular networks in as little as 250 ms. Through path measurement, TRT dynamically adjusts stream buffer size and forward error correction to optimize packet delays across diverse network environments.

While we wait to hear about pricing on those, the $3490 Prism Flex Mk II (above) features a redesigned chassis with improved front panel controls for intuitive operation and superior cooling mechanisms. Additionally, it integrates analog audio IFB functionality, enabling seamless talkback communication between devices through the Teradek Core Cloud. The Mk II remains fully compatible with all Prism devices, making it an iterative upgrade that improves the original Flex's internals and software architecture.

Bullet pointed highlights include:

  • Enable intercom with Teradek’s Core Cloud platform and other Prism devices.
  • Navigate the OLED screen effortlessly with the newly introduced D-pad front control buttons, offering an improved tactile experience for users.
  • Experience the fastest high-quality video streaming with the integration of the on-board ultra-low latency Teradek Reliable Transport (TRT) protocol, achieving latency as low as 100ms over WAN.
  • Encode and decode concurrently with the optional “Decode” license available for Mk II encoders.
  • Select from a myriad of protocols, including: SRT, TRT, MPEG-TS, RIST, RTMP, RTSP, HLS, and DASH.
