Panasonic/RedsharkPanasonics new MicroP2 cards

First announced at NAB last year, Panasonic are about to ship their MicroP2 memory cards along with some useful accessories

Panasonics new MicroP2 memory cards look like standard SD memory cards but they have a lot of features for the professional user. They are the first cards to use the UHS-II interface, giving transfer speeds of 2.0Gbps, 1.7 times faster than standard P2 cards.

They are also designed to be robust in the field and are protected against water, dust, static electricity, X-rays and electrical overload. A flash memory error correction system, equivalent to a RAID system, increases data retention reliability and they can be password protected. They even have a QR code for identification.

Panasonic have also announced a MicroP2 adaptor for current P2 hardware and a two slot external drive with a USB3 interface for offloading data from the cards.

The 32GB and 64GB microP2 cards will be available next month with suggested RRP's of €200 and €300 excluding VAT, respectively. The AJ-P2AD1 microP2 adapter will have a suggested RRP of €165 excluding VAT. The AJ-MPD1 microP2 drive will have a suggested RRP of €320 excluding VAT.

Panasonic will also be showing two new products, the AJ-PX5000 P2 HD camcorder and AJ-PD500 half-rack recorder, both with built-in microP2 slots and AVC-ULTRA recording, the company's newest compression system.

MicroP2 cards will guarantee data writing up to class200 (except 1080/50p,60p) mode of AVC-ULTRA,
